Whenever we write code, the goal is to solve a specific problem. As with all problem solving, a logical approach with a plan is most effective. In code this planning stage usually involves writing some pseudo code, simply writing in English and converting to code.

This approach should detail each step required to solve your problem, allowing you to come in afterward to choose the optimal design decisions for your code. Pseudo code also has the advantages of improving the readability of your code so another developer can easily understand the logic. While that is unnecessary for our simple example here, complex problems will benefit.
